Evaluation of Culture Media for the Rapid Isolation of Dermatophytes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dermatophytes are prevalent causes of cutaneous mycoses and, unlike many other fungal pathogens, are able to cause disease in immunocompetent individuals. They infect keratinized tissue such as skin, hair, and nails, resulting in tinea infections, including ringworm. The dermatophytes include three genera of molds in the class Euascomycetes: Trichophyton, Microsporum, andEpidermophyton. Dermatophytes are grouped according to their habitat as being either anthropophilic (human associated), zoophilic (animal associated), or geophilic (soil dwelling). Anthropophilic species are responsible for the majority of human infections; however, species from all three groups of dermatophytes have been associated with clinical disease. Human infections caused by anthropophiles tend to be chronic, with little inflammation, whereas infections caused by geophiles and zoophiles are often associated with acute inflammation and are self-healing. . The clinical presentation, though very typical of ringworm infection, is very often confused with other skin disorders particularly due to rampant application of broad-spectrum steroid containing skin ointments and creams leading to further misdiagnosis and mismanagement. So there is a need for correct, rapid and efficient laboratory methods for diagnosis of dermatophytosis.

Effects of different culture media on optimization of primary neuronal cell culture for in vitro models assay
Background: In vitro model studies are becoming increasingly popular for experimental research designs. They include isolation and expansion of cells of a particular tissue, such as the nervous tissue which contributes to understanding the underlying mechanisms in many pathologies. It enables the scrutinization of intracellular signaling pathways responsible for cell death. OBJECTIVES: In the ...
متن کاملApplication of culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods for isolation and identification of Mycoplasma synoviae on broiler chicken farms
Mycoplasma synoviae (M. synoviae) is a major worldwide poultry pathogen that causes serious economic losses in the poultry industry. This study was designed to detect M. synoviae through culture isolation and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay to demonstrated the involvement of M. synoviae infection in trachea and the lung/air sac samples taken from commercial broiler chicken farms in 3 m...
متن کاملIsolation of common carp ovarian follicular cells and evaluation of their endocrine activity in primary cell culture
To study viability and activity of isolated common carp, Cyprinus carpio, ovarian follicular cells (granulosa and theca cells), 17- α -Hydroxy progesterone (17 α -OHP) and 17 β -Estradiol (E2) levels were estimated in the culture media of cultivated carp ovarian follicular cells, using radioimmunoassay (RIA). Oocytes were isolated from the ovaries of female carp. Interstitial tissue was manua...
